Well, that was quick. According to a recent article in the Glendale News Press, the Brand Blvd. location of Famima is set to close at the end of the month due to lackluster pedestrian traffic.
I was relieved when Famima opened last year, largely because that particular space on Brand was an eyesore-- it had been sitting vacant in the nearly three years since Java City closed up shop. It's puzzling that Famima is leaving so early into their five-year lease--surely they must've considered waiting a few months for the Americana to open so they could gauge the effect it would have on foot traffic.
I will be sad to see Famima go, even though their premade offerings proved to be mediocre and overpriced. One notable exception is the spicy pork buns, which are perfect for sneaking past the overzealous guards at the Mann Exchange theater. Enjoy them while you can.
