I've spent the last two days in downtown Glendale, where things are happening--FAST. I've got loads of things to post on, so I'll just dive right in.
In the comments of my Salvation Army post, Mike of Franklin Avenue asks about the empty lot across from the aforementioned Salvation Army Store.
Here are some pictures of the lot today. In recent years, it has been entirely vacant, except for occasional use as a pumpkin or Christmas tree lot, or as a parking lot for trailers from nearby film shoots.
Perfect for filming "dead body in an empty lot" scenes.

Public notice for a hearing last December.
Look closely at the public notice above. The site will soon be home to the City Center II mixed use project, which consists of two towers: a 20 story condominium tower and an 18 story condo/hotel tower connected by a 4 story podium. In total the project will add 184 condo units and 172 hotel rooms, as well as 4100 square feet of retail space. According to the Amidi Real Estate Group's website, the project is scheduled to be completed in 2010.
Here's the Environmental Impact Report.
Renderings of the project from the developer's website:
I would describe the spiky tower as "Scientology chic".
