99 Cent Store Taste Test: Andersen's Split Pea Soup

The Product: Andersen's Split Pea Soup
They Claim: Low Fat, "Flavored With Real Bacon"
The Verdict: Tasty! This is a surprisingly rich split pea soup. When I opened the can, the soup plopped out as one can shaped brick, and I had my doubts. However, when heated it settled down into a perfectly pleasant and comforting bowl of, well, split pea soup. Small chunks of what appeared to be real bacon added just enough flavor to liven things up. Presumably this soup is related to the famous Andersen's restaurant in Buellton, although the logo is different. Nutritionally, the salt content is fairly high (66% of your DV in one can) but very low fat, with one can containing only 2 grams of fat. Overall, a solid choice for 99 cents.
Grade: A-
