My friend Chris Nichols -- local historian, preservationist and man about town -- has started a new blog. Chris writes the always illuminating "Ask Chris" column in Los Angeles Magazine. His new blog has only been up for a few weeks, but he's already posted on topics such as the incredibly detailed L.A. Noire video game, the demolition of the world's oldest In-N-Out Burger location, and observations such as the dueling Britney Spears/Christina Aguilera tip jars at Babycakes Bakery.
His column is always the first thing I turn to in the magazine. Some recent Ask Chris questions:
- I think I’ve seen smoke coming from the dragons over the Broadway entrance to Chinatown. Am I hallucinating?
- I’ve always wanted to try rattlesnake. Where can I get it here?
- I’ve run into funeral processions heading toward Rose Hills Memorial Park along the 605. There is always a motorcycle cop (I think it’s a cop, anyway) at the head of the single-file line of mourners. I don’t know what the etiquette is.
- I found a dead pigeon in my Eagle Rock driveway with a yellow band around its leg that read AU2010 SA894. Do you know what that means?
Chris always needs new questions, so e-mail your questions to him at askchris@lamag.com.
