Acevedo, a volunteer of four years at the Glendale Police Department, has been appointed by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to head up the city’s Disabled Access Process Appeals Commission until June 2013.The rest of the story is here. Jorge was a member of the Glendale Police Department Citizen's Academy class I recently participated in and was buddies with everyone in the class by the end of the second night. He could probably charm Al Qaeda if given the opportunity.
He welcomes the appointment with great joy, since he has been fighting for disabled persons’ rights for many years.
“I want people to see the person, not the disability,” he said.

I know it's on your site but can't find it. What's the direct line for the Glendale police? I want to put it in my phone.
Also, was everyone fit and under 30 in your citizen's police class or was there a variety? Is it going to be held again?

The composition of the class was very diverse, with hardly anybody under 30.
At the moment, the next session is on hold because the budget for Community Policing has been cut, which really sucks. Some members of our class are going to speak at a City Council meeting to try to persuade them to restore the necessary funding, or possible raise money for the next class through the Glendale Police Foundation. The class was great, and I highly recommend it. If there is more information about the next class, I will post it. Here is the official link:

there will be two meetings for the citizen's academy work group that participated this year on sat. 9/27 @ 10:00 A.M. and also on wed. 10/1 @ 6:00 P.M. both meeting will be held at the police station so to all those that participated and would like to continue and can attend don't forget these dates
