Dramatic Photos and Video of Huge Brand Boulevard Fire

Here are some dramatic photos and videos of the large fire that occurred at 233 N. Brand Boulevard in downtown Glendale shortly after midnight last night. One man jumped from a second story window to escape the flames and suffered minor injuries. Two firefighters also suffered minor injuries while fighting the flames. I'm not sure yet about the extent of the damage to local favorite Skaf's Lebanese Cuisine or the other businesses on the ground floor of 233 N. Brand, but fortunately the Brand Bookshop was undamaged in the blaze.

Here's an incredible video by Greg Shear of the fire at its peak:

I was around the area only hours before, boy does it look intense. Thankfully no one was seriously injured. Kudos to the Fire Dept, always on top of their game.

The bookstore could have had smoke damage. My family home had a chair smoulder and catch fire from a cigarette ash. It was on top of brick, but it melted the ceiling fan, scorched the sliding glass door, and left smoke damage inside of drawers, and even inside milk in the refrigerator. If smoke or soot got in the vents, it got into the bookstore.

I called the Brand bookshop yesterday after the first fire and they said they were fine and didn't have any damage. Hopefully they're still fine after last night's flare-up.

Brand Bookshop is fine and open for business, even after the second flare up. Remarkably, there wasn't any smoke or fire damage from the 2 huge fires next door. A portion of the northwest corner of the bookstore shares a wall with the burned building and has been made "limited access only" for now, as the burned building next door was unreinforced masonry and parts of it are now potentially structurally unsound.

The jewelry store was yellow-tagged ("limited entry"), Skaf's was yellow-tagged, Regali Preciozo was red-tagged ("unsafe"), and the optometrist next door on the north side was yellow-tagged. Sedthee Thai is open.
